O'Leary and Burrows Take Fourth in Hyeres Medal Race and Sixth Overall

#OLYMPIC SAILING – Peter O'Leary and David Burrows finished fourth in today's medal race to finish Semaine Olympique Francaise in sixth overall at the windy Hyeres venue on the French riviera.

The Irish Olympic 49er pairing Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern finished 19th in a 56 strong fleet.

Next month will be a busy month for the Irish Olympic team team with several World Championship events being held in Europe. O'Leary and Burrows contest the Star worlds at the same French venue from May 5th.

The ISA expect at least one more campaign from the 470, Laser and Finn to qualify for London during the month.

There are only eight regattas before the Olympic regatta and the ISA is expecting six medal race finishes and two medals as a sign that the team is on track to deliver in Weymouth. One of those medal race finishes was achieved today.

Olympic hopefuls Gerbil Owens and Scott Flanigan also competed in Hyeres this week. The 470 was the only class to get all races sailed and the Irish pairing finished 34th out of the 82 strong fleet. Their next target is Olympic qualification at the 470 World Championships in Barcelona from 07-19 May.

In the Paralympic Sonar class John Twomey, Anthony Hegarty and Ian Costelloe from Kinsale who will be participating in his 10th Paralympic Games at the end of August in Weymouth finished 10th in Hyeres.
