Tuco Takes IRC and ECHO Double at Cobh People’s Regatta

George Radley’s Cove Sailing Club Sun Fast 32 Tuco took both IRC and ECHO honours in the spinnaker cruiser division at Cobh People’s Regatta on Sunday (August 16th).

The cruiser racing followed Saturday’s dinghy programme at Cove Sailing Club, with light westerly conditions providing a gentle conclusion to the regatta weekend.

Tuco Wins Spinnaker IRC and ECHO

Tuco completed the course in one hour, 40 minutes and eight seconds and corrected to 1:32:43 under IRC.

That gave Radley a 21-second corrected-time victory over Frank Caul’s Royal Cork yacht Prince of Tides, a Grand Soleil 37, with Denis Ellis’s Cove Sailing Club Corby 33 I-Zimbra another 25 seconds back in third.

The order changed slightly under ECHO, but Tuco remained on top, correcting to 1:33:37.

Prince of Tides was again second, 29 seconds behind, while I-Zimbra took third.

Rosmarina Leads White Sails IRC

Ronan Twomey’s Royal Cork Yacht Club First 40.7 Rosmarina headed the White Sails 1 IRC division.

Twomey sailed the fastest elapsed time of the class at 1:35:56 and corrected to 1:38:14.

Derry Good was second aboard the Laser 28 Summer Light, correcting to 1:41:06, with Pat Tanner’s Castro 3/4 Ton Bateleur 88 third on 1:41:30.

Only 45 seconds separated second from fifth on corrected time, with Dave Doyle’s Cove Pirate fourth on 1:41:36 and Tom McGrath’s Dehler 34 Big Mc fifth on 1:41:51.

Kernow Takes ECHO Victory

The White Sails 1 ECHO result produced a different winner, with Ian Scandrett’s Cove Sailing Club Sigma 38 OOD Kernow taking first place.

Kernow corrected to 1:38:45, giving Scandrett a margin of two minutes and one second over Derry Good in second.

Dave Doyle was third in Cove Pirate, followed by Pat Tanner’s Bateleur 88 and Ronan Twomey’s Rosmarina.

Tom McGrath was sixth in Big Mc, with Robbie Allen and Damien Leahy seventh.

Bright Wings Wins White Sails 2

The two-boat White Sails 2 ECHO contest went to Bright Wings, the Cove Sailing Club First 32 sailed by Ronan O’Gara, Stuart Byrne and Nicholas O’Rourke.

Bright Wings corrected to 1:34:30, ahead of Chris McGinley’s Cove Sailing Club Moody 33 Mk1 Elf on 1:46:36.

The cruiser racing brought the Cobh People’s Regatta programme to a close following Saturday’s dinghy racing in Cork Harbour.
