By this time in two weeks, the first of the 2024/25 DMYC Viking Marine Dinghy Frostbite races will be behind us, weather permitting, but to date, the entry is quite modest, at 37 boats in total.
The ILCA 6s lead the charge with thirteen boats, while their contemporaries, the ILCA 7s and 4s, stand at four and two boats, respectively. The ILCA 4s are most welcome as they were absent last year. The 7s are slightly down on their 2023/24 numbers, and the 6s are at about one-third of their 2023/24 numbers.
The Fireballs have eight entries to date, slightly down on last year, the Aero 6s have six and the Aero 7s, two, probably close to last year's numbers. A solitary Finn (from two last year) and a RS400 make up the balance. Of the other classes that we might see, there are no IDRAs, and no RS200s.
A significant entry from the newest class on Dublin Bay, the Melges 15, would be a real boost for the Series, which might also necessitate a change in the starting order. It would add a new dimension to the PY racing between the Fireballs and Aeros and showcase the respective merits of all three classes.
Series 1 commences on Sunday 3rd November and runs through to December 22nd.
