The contribution made by Italian electrical engineer Guglielmo Marconi to world radio is the theme of a Dublin Bay Old Gaffers’ Association (DBOGA) talk this month.
The talk will be given by Maritime Institute of Ireland president Dr Joe Varley.
Marconi made the first ship-to-shore radio transmissions from a tug in Dublin Bay to the Harbourmaster's house in Kingstown (now Dun Laoghaire).
He set up eight radio transmission stations in Ireland.
The DBOGA lecture in aid of the RNLI will be held in the Poolbeg Yacht and Boat Club, Poolbeg, Dublin 4 on Thursday, January 16th, at 8 pm.
Contributions to the RNLI are accepted at the door.
