The Royal Cork Yacht Club at Crosshaven is taking action to widen its race officer resource.
"For this season onwards," says a post on its website: "All of our Race Officers must have completed the Irish Sailing Local Race Officer training course."
Former Admiral and international sailor Anthony O'Leary will lead a two-evening course for members this month, to prepare Race Officers for the season ahead.
"Volunteerism is the essence of our Club," says the RCYC on its website. "So members who are actively involved in all aspects of racing in our club are asked to attend this course to ensure we have enough ROs for the 2025 season and beyond."
The course will be held for two hours each evening on January 21 and 22, underlining the club's importance on Race Officer training and ensuring the smooth running of cruiser racing. All boat owners have been requested to provide at least one potential Race Officer from amongst experienced crew.
