Royal Cork Yacht Club secured seventh place at the revived Macnamara’s Bowl, as an international fleet returned to Royal Lymington Yacht Club for the first staging in over 30 years.
Mia Murphy, Alana Twomey, Emma Geary, Julie Neville and Kelly Williams represented the Irish club in a strong 11-team lineup spanning Ireland, the UAE, Bermuda, Canada and the UK.
The regatta marked the return of a historic women’s sailing event, first run in 1978 and last held in 1995. Its revival has attracted a high-calibre field, including Olympic and world champions competing in identical RS21 keelboats.
Among the leading names were Olympic gold medallist Pippa Wilson and Olympian Vita Heathcote, alongside multiple world and national champions across youth and senior classes.
Racing was held over two days following a training session, with seven fleet races scheduled. The one-design RS21 format placed emphasis on crew work, tactics and consistency.
“It’s an honour for the RS21 to be the boat of choice for such a prestigious revival,” said Liam Willis of RS Sailing.
Organisers said the event aims to blend heritage with modern competition while promoting participation pathways in women’s sailing.
The Macnamara’s Bowl brings together established and emerging talent, highlighting both the sport’s legacy and its next generation.
