The biennial multi-class Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta is one of the most complex events in international sailing, and its smooth functioning relies on a continuity of administrative experience which takes it for granted that those on the organising committee are in it for the long haul.
But even by the VDLR's traditions of long service, Don O'Dowd of the Royal St George YC's contribution of Chairing five editions, indicating a minimum of ten years continuous involvement, is exceptional. And though he handed over the Chairmanship to the National YC's Eddie Totterdell in November, his successors know that they can call on his fount of wisdom and experience to advise on the best way forward.
