It was a matter of celebration for Irish sailing when Dun Laoghaire’s Roger Craig snatched gold in the final race of the fiercely-contested Masters division at the 2026 ILCA Masters European Championships in La Baule, France, on September 25th.
Craig, a member of one of Dun Laoghaire sailing’s best-known families, and since March 2025 RYA Northern Ireland’s Racing Officer, went into the concluding stages of the championship with everything still to play for and delivered when it mattered most.
His victory came right down to the wire. Craig won the final race to secure the European Masters title by just one point, a fitting conclusion to a championship in which consistency and resilience kept him in contention to the very end.
It was an outstanding international result for the Dun Laoghaire sailor and one that underlined the enduring strength of Irish Masters sailing on the international ILCA circuit.
