Furio Benussi's 100-foot maxi ARCA SGR has claimed line honours in the 2026 Loro Piana Giraglia offshore race. The Italian entry completed the classic Mediterranean challenge from Saint-Tropez to Genoa via the Giraglia Rock in an elapsed time of 1 day, 1 hour, 5 minutes and 56 seconds.

ARCA SGR finished just 5 minutes and 11 seconds ahead of Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones' Verdier 100 Magic Carpet E after a closely fought contest at the front of the fleet. The result marks a significant achievement in one of offshore sailing's most historic and prestigious races.

A full race report is expected upon the fleet's arrival in Genoa. Ireland is represented. by Pete Smyth's Ker 46 Searcher 2. Organised by Yacht Club Italiano in cooperation with Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, the Loro Piana Giraglia remains one of the Mediterranean's landmark offshore events.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
