The Irish Schools Team Racing Association (ISTRA) has been hard at work since its AGM in May 2022, welcoming the province of Ulster into the fold.
Its committee now comprises nine members representing all four Irish provinces, with the latest addition set to have school teams competing in the Ulster Provincials and qualifying teams in the Irish Schools Team Racing Championships.
The association now boasts a comprehensive database for each province which school teachers, parents and other people who are interested in promoting and organising team racing clinics with their local schools, sailing clubs and sail training centres.
In the upcoming weeks, ISTRA will launch its Facebook page along with other social media platforms where the public will be able to share information and find out what’s happening in other provinces.
The spring calendar is already looking busy with the following events:
- Connacht and Ulster Provincials at Lough Ree Yacht Club on Sunday 26 February: This will be a combination of team racing and rules clinic. The qualifier for the Nationals will take place on 22 April. Notice of Race and entry at www.lryc.ie.
- Leinster Provincial Qualifiers hosted by the National Yacht Club on Sunday 12 March. Notice of Race and entry at www.nyc.ie.
- Munster Provincial Qualifiers will be hosted by the FMOEC centre in Schull on Saturday 18 March. Notice of Race and entry on request from [email protected].
In addition, the 2023 Irish Schools National Team Racing Championships will take place at the Royal St George Yacht Club on the weekend of 29-30 April. The Notice of Race and entry details will be published at a later date.
