Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) and its statutory partners are investigating a fish kill in Tullamore, Co Offaly that has claimed the lives of 69 fish, primarily brown trout.
The incident occurred on the Tullamore River in Tullamore town. Fish mortalities were observed over a 1km stretch of the river.
IFI personnel first attended the site of the incident on Tuesday (22 September) following reports to its information line, and were on site again on Wednesday (23 September).
Water samples have been taken from the river for analysis and assessments into the extent, and the cause, of the fish kill are ongoing.
Members of the public are advised, as a precautionary measure, not to consume any dead fish found at waterways in the area.
IFI is working with Offaly County Council and the Environmental Protection Agency to investigate the fish kill, and is the lead agency on this case.
