Greystones Regatta Kicks Off With Cruisers 2 & 3 Yacht Racing

#greystonesregatta – Howth Yacht Club's recently crowned Half Ton Cup champion Checkmate XV marked her return to Irish waters today with a stunning performance on the Wicklow coast at the Cruisers 2 & 3 championship, a forerunner to tomorrow's Taste of Greystones Regatta.

Dave Cullen's vintage 1985 Humphrey's design established a good lead on the water in both races in a day when westerly winds off Wicklow were very shifty and ranging from five to 15 knots.

The 25–boat Cruisers 2 & 3 fleet were joined in Wicklow by the arrival of two ISORA fleets who had raced from Dun Laoghaire and Pwllheli in one of their last offshore races of the season.

The combined fleet returned to Greystones marina tonight where the the new facility is accomodating a fleet of over 120 yachts drawn to Wicklow for a weekend's racing culminating tomorrow with the two race Taste of Greystones Regatta tomorrow afternoon. Light winds are forecast.
