O'Donovan and Kenny Finish Fifth in Rowing Semi-Finals

Two Ireland lightweight double sculls rowers will compete in B Finals at the World Cup in Munich tomorrow. Mark O’Donovan and Niall Kenny were in sixth in their semi-final until the closing stages, when they put in a good finish to edge out the Czech Republic and finish fifth. The race was won by Britain’s Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter.

In the lightweight women’s double semi-final, Siobhan McCrohan and Claire Lambe were well off the pace and finished sixth, over nine seconds down on winners Kathryn Twyman and Andrea Dennis of Britain. The Netherlands and Denmark also made it through.

Double Scull – A/B Semi-Final Two (First Three to A Final; rest to B Final): 1 Belarus One 7:05.30, 2 Ireland (L Dilleen, S Puspure) 7:08.23, 3 Romania 7:08.52; 4 Belarus Two 7:11.10, 5 China 7:13.38, 6 Hungary 7:22.86

Lightweight Double Scull – A/B Semi-Final Two (First Three to A Final; rest to B Final): 1 Britain Two 7:05.85, 2 Netherlands 7:06.88, 3 Denmark 7:09.67; 4 Belgium 7:11.95, 5 Sweden 7:14.88, 6 Ireland (S McCrohan, C Lambe) 7:18.93.
