NUIG/Grainne Mhaol Beat UCD in Rowing Endgame

In an extraordinary rowing race, NUIG/Grainne Mhaol beat UCD in the quarter-final of the Visitors’ Cup at Henley Royal Regatta. The UCD crew led by up to a length for most of the race, but in the final stages NUIG/Grainne Mhaol, stroked by James Wall, upped their rate  and launched a big attack. UCD could not deal with it. Their steering went awry and they caught a crab. The Galway men won, with a verdict of not rowed out.

Henley Royal Regatta, Day Three (Irish interest)

Visitors’ Cup (Fours, Intermediate): NUIG/Grainne Mhaol bt UCD not rowed out, 6 mins 43 secs; Newcastle University and Marino Billi (Italy) bt Leander easily, 7:00

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
