Cork Regatta a Taster for National Rowing Championships

Cork Regatta a Taster for National Rowing Championships

Cork Regatta, the last Grand League rowing event of the season, promises some top-class racing at the National Rowing Centre tomorrow, not least in the single sculls events. John Keohane, a winner at Marlow regatta, faces some serious contenders at either end of the experience scale: Skibbereen oarsman Paul O’Donovan is just 17, while Beijing Olympians Cathal Moynihan (30) and Sean Casey (33) could put down markers for the National Championships in this event and in the double sculls. In the women’s single, Monika Dukarska looks the clear favourite, while Denise Walsh may be her main challenger.

The men’s eights pits UCD against rivals NUIG/Grainne Mhaol.  Skibbereen, who hold a big lead in the Grand League table, would hope to close out their advantage at the event.
