ARGO’s principal controls and information systems are arranged to reduce workload for one skipper.

Equipment supporting short-handed operation includes:

Her July 2026 condition survey found the hull matrix very sound, the vessel fair in all directions and the hull in good condition. The surveyor described ARGO as a prime example of the Alpha 32 class, maintained and cared for to a high standard.

Offshore heritage and racing pedigree

ARGO belongs to the Van de Stadt cruiser-racer tradition developed when speed, seaworthiness and practical cruising were expected to coexist in the same yacht.

The Alpha 32 and the Pionier 10 are the same sloop design by Van de Stadt of Holland.

The class has been successful overseas; a similar yacht won the 1971 RORC Class IV Championship and was winner of Class IV in the 1971 Fastnet race.

Alpha is built in Germany and Pioneer 10 in UK respectively

Electrical system and redundancy
ARGO has several separately charged battery banks, providing useful resilience for navigation, domestic systems and modern onboard energy requirements.

The system includes:

two 100 Ah AGM batteries serving the original starter and house arrangement;
alternator, Solar and shore-power charging;
upgraded cabling;
Argofet battery isolator;
separate 100 Ah auxiliary battery with Victron MPPT solar charging;
separate two-battery Victron AGM bank;
Victron shore chargers;
solar charging;
battery monitoring;
12-volt and 220/240-volt services;
shore-power connection.
The independent auxiliary bank supports equipment such as cabin heating, Starlink and portable electronics without placing all loads on one electrical system.

The 2026 survey described the battery installation as very professional and reported no fault.

Interior and accommodation
ARGO provides five berths:

two berths in the forward cabin;
two saloon berths;
one quarter berth.

Her traditional timber interior is warm, practical and well appointed, with:

dedicated navigation station;
saloon table;
extensive lockers and drawers;
brass clock, barometer, hygrometer and tide instruments;
dimmable LED lighting;
built-in refrigerator;
diesel cabin heating;
separate heads compartment;
new manual toilet;
electric toilet conversion kit included;
two-sink galley;
ENO gas cooker;
electric gas shut-off valve;
new gas regulator and piping.

The survey found the interior woodwork and cushions in good condition.

Heating and family comfort
A professionally installed, Bluetooth-controlled diesel heater supports year-round use and extends the practical cruising season.

The electrical system has sufficient separation and redundancy to support modern family requirements, including:

heating;
refrigeration;
computers and tablets (Optional);
lighting;
communications;
Starlink (optional);
navigation equipment;
charging of portable devices.

Hull primed and protected with multiple coats of antifouling;
all seacocks renewed in 2023;
standing rigging renewed in 2023;
new toilet and hoses;
new sprayhood;
cockpit tent reconditioned;
gas regulator renewed in 2025;
mainsail halyard and topping lift renewed in 2025;
navigation-data network integrated;
extensive electrical and battery installation documented.
