Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity Christopher O’Sullivan TD visited Tralee Bay Wetlands Ecology Park and Activity Centre on Friday, 22 May. The visit followed his official opening of the Kerry Biodiversity Conference 2026 at Munster Technological University (MTU), Tralee.
Minister O’Sullivan was joined by Minister for Education Norma Foley TD, Councillor Anne O’Sullivan and senior representatives from Kerry County Council.
The delegation was welcomed by management and staff at the Tralee Bay Wetlands centre, which serves as a hub for environmental education, conservation and outdoor activity in the south-west.
Representatives from Fáilte Ireland, the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and Transition Kerry also attended. The group gathered at the park’s 20-metre viewing tower overlooking Tralee Bay, a protected Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
Discussions focused on biodiversity awareness, ecological education and future environmental initiatives across County Kerry. The visit also highlighted collaboration between local communities, educational bodies and State agencies on conservation and sustainable tourism projects.
Organisers said the event reflected a shared commitment to protecting natural heritage and supporting future research and climate action initiatives in the region.
