Oriel Windfarm Limited has applied to extend a commercial deadline for its proposed 375MW offshore wind project off County Louth, while the planning authority has issued a further request for information on the development.
The developer applied to the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA) on 9 October 2026 for a material amendment to its existing Maritime Area Consent, seeking to extend its Route to Market deadline to 31 December 2028.
The application, reference 2022-MAC-001-D, is listed by MARA as Applied. The extension has not been approved.
Planning Authority Seeks Further Information
Separately, An Coimisiún Pleanála issued a further-information request on 13 October 2026 concerning Oriel's planning application, reference ABP-319799-24. The developer has until 14 January 2027 to respond.
The authority's offshore renewable energy planning status table records that consideration of the application is paused pending the response.
The further-information document raises matters including marine archaeology at the proposed Dunany Point landfall, tourism impacts and bat surveys.
Separate Commercial and Planning Processes
Oriel received its original Maritime Area Consent in December 2022, but did not secure a contract in Ireland's first offshore wind auction in May 2023. At the time, ESB said it remained committed to the project and was exploring alternative routes to market.
As Afloat reported in April 2025, Oriel was among three Irish Sea offshore wind projects asked to provide further planning information. The latest request follows that earlier process.
Site investigation work has continued: the survey vessel Fugro Voyager called at Dún Laoghaire in March 2026 while supporting geotechnical investigations for Oriel.
The new MARA application concerns a route-to-market deadline attached to the existing consent; the further-information request is part of a separate planning process. Neither is a new construction approval, and neither establishes a revised start date for the wind farm.
