Met Éireann’s yellow wind warning has prompted local authorities to take measures relating to a combination of high tides and high winds.

Due to the super moon, unusually high tides are expected along with strong onshore wind, with wave overtopping and potential flooding, Met Éireann has said.

Galway City Council crews will be on duty between Dark Circle at Rinn na Mara as far as the Galway Business School in Salthill, and Toft carpark has been closed to the public until further notice.

Other car parks have also been closed, including Salthill’s beach road carpark and Ballyloughane beach road in Renmore.

High tide in Galway is at 0735 on Thursday with a 4.4 metre tide, and a 4.5 metre tide at high tide at 1943 on Thursday evening.

Members of the public are advised to “exercise caution and to monitor updates in relation to weather alerts on www.Met.ie or download the Met Éireann app”.
