Terns and wind turbines, a seaweed walk and talk and seabird identification are among themes of this year’s Conamara Sea Week which takes place later this month.
The festival, founded by Leo and Clare Hallissey, will mark its 40th anniversary when it opens in Letterfrack, Co Galway, on October 19th.
Musicians and friends of the festival will perform a special tribute to the Hallisseys to acknowledge their contribution.
Central to the programme is an education programme involving students at local primary and secondary schools, and Youthreach, the Galway Regional Education and Training Board and Atlantic Technological University will also be involved.
Ecologist Marie Louise Heffernan and archaeologist Michael Gibbons will participate in workshops, along with artists including Helena Doyle, Lelia Ní Chathmhaoil, Órla McGovern and Aoife Carry.
Author Donal Ryan is among authors who will read in what chair Dermot O’Donovan describes as a “truly diverse and inclusive programme”.
Conamara Sea Week runs from October 19th to 28th, and the full programme is here
