A containership which was towed to Dun Laoghaire Harbour over a month ago for engine repairs and was expected to depart before Christmas, it now transpires is to remain in port just days before the New Year, writes Jehan Ashmore.
The 515 TEU capacity feeder containership Anna G which arrived in the south Dublin Bay harbour in mid-November, has still to await an engine part that is to be delivered today, according to Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
The local authority which has operated the harbour since 2018, also added that technicians have gone home for Christmas, returning on 27 December to continue work. All repairs should be completed by 29 December and the ship should then be able to sail.
When Anna G arrived into the harbour the Cypriot-flagged containership berthed alongside St. Michaels Pier from where the vessel with its superstructure faces inland directly towards the aptly named Marine Road.
On this road is located DLRCoCo's Town Hall and adjoining offices that overlook the waterfront and is nearby to landmark buildings among them the Council's LexIcon Library and the National Maritime Museum of Ireland.
