The Isle of Man Post Office has announced the upcoming release of a stunning stamp collection featuring the works of Isle of Man-based artist Nicola Dixon. The collection will depict Peel Traditional Boats and will be available starting May 13, 2024.
Nicola Dixon's relationship with the Peel Traditional Boat Weekend Festival dates back to 1994 when she first drew simple line images for event t-shirts that quickly became recognisable and collectable. Over the years, these line images were water-coloured and turned into event posters. Now, some of these popular works of art have been transformed into a vibrant stamp collection.
The collection features six stamps with values of 85p, £1.28, £1.51, £1.60, £2.31, and £3.21. The stamps will be available as a Set, Sheet Set, Presentation Pack, and First Day Cover. To view the full collection, visit the Isle of Man Post Office website.
"I am delighted that my work has been transformed into this wonderful set of stamps," said Nicola Dixon. "These beautiful traditional boats will now travel the world in a very different form, commemorating the Peel Traditional Boat Weekend that has been part of the Island's maritime calendar for so many years."
Maxine Cannon, General Manager of Isle of Man Stamps and Coins, expressed her gratitude for working with Dixon to create the delightful stamps. "The Peel Traditional Boat Weekend Festival has been such an important event for so many traditional boat enthusiasts, and we are honoured to be able to keep the memories alive with these colourful and energetic stamps," she said.
The Isle of Man is known for its talented artists, and Dixon's work is a testament to that reputation. The Peel Traditional Boats Stamp Collection is a beautiful way to celebrate the artistry and history of the Isle of Man's maritime traditions.
