A Manx Government department is defending its decision to close the Sea Terminal in Douglas on Monday night when the Liverpool sailing was cancelled.
The Department of Infrastructure's (DoI) decision to close the ferry terminal in the Manx capital led to claims from several passengers who were left 'stranded'.
The Isle of Man Steam Packet’s fast-ferry, Manannan, had been due to sail to Liverpool just before midnight, however, this crossing was cancelled due to bad weather.
The decision to cancel the Isle of Man-England sailing was made at around 9pm.
Some of the Steam Packet passengers affected thought they'd be able to stay overnight in the Sea Terminal while they waited for the next ferry to be available. However, they did not know that the terminal building would be closed after the final sailing.
In response to the terminal’s closure, one person, whose son and partner were among those affected, took to social media to thank The Barbary Coast in Douglas. The grill and bar venue located on the North Quay was kept open so anyone 'stranded' could 'stay there and keep warm'.
