Wilson ASA, a major European short-sea shipping operator, has confirmed its option to order for a further eight more vessels that will extend its newbuilding programme to total 14 vessels.
The Bergen, Norway-based company with a fleet of around 140 vessels has signed a contract for eight state-of-the-art 6,300 deadweight tonnes (dwt) future-proof newbuilds whose design focuses on environmental benefits, flexibility, and efficiency.
The newbuilds are designed to contribute to Wilson’s effort to meet environmental targets and follow, as Afloat reported in June, 2023, an order placed for six 3,800 dwt vessels.
On completion of delivering the initial order of the 6,300dwt series, the eight of the 6,300dwt series will directly follow and with all 14 newbuilds to be delivered from the first half of 2025 and until 2028.
By investing in additional new tonnage for Wilson’s existing fleet (ranging from 1,500-8,000dwt) will further consolidate its position as a modern player in the maritime industry and makes for more sustainable steps towards reducing its carbon footprint.
