Boats of all kinds are set to gather on Lough Corrib on 18 October 2025, as the annual powerboat run promises a challenging yet scenic day on the water in aid of charity.

The 2025 Lough Corrib Powerboat Run has been confirmed for Saturday, 18 October in Galway.

The event is jointly presented by PowerBoats in the West and the Corrib Rowing and Yachting Club (CRYC) in aid of charity.

While rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) have dominated previous runs, organisers say all boats are welcome. Participants are asked to maintain an average cruising speed of 25 knots and note that Lough Corrib can be challenging to navigate.

The CRYC slipway will open from 7 am for launching. Trailers may be stored overnight from Friday 17 to Saturday 19 October, with removal required by midday on Sunday 19 October.

A drivers’ briefing will take place at 09:00 at the CRYC clubhouse, with boats departing at 09:30.

The route includes a stop at Inchagoill around 11:00, with the option of a diversion to Ashford Castle for photographs, weather permitting. A picnic and island walk are planned, with guided historic tours under consideration.

Boats will leave Inchagoill at 12:30, arriving at Maam Bridge for 13:00. Refreshments will be served at Keane’s pub before departure at 16:00.

The fleet is due back at CRYC for 17:45, with food served at 18:30. Sunset on the day is expected at 18:30.

Organisers advise vessels must be capable of cruising at 25 knots and carry sufficient fuel for 70 nautical miles. No fuel will be available en route, and no charts will be provided. Operations will be on VHF Channel 08.
