Waterways Ireland has announced a public auction of impounded vessels next month. Around 26 boats will go under the hammer on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.
The sale is being organised in partnership with Irish Machinery Auctions. The vessels were seized under Navigation Bye-laws and are now being offered for public purchase.
Waterways Ireland said the auction “ensures a transparent process for the disposal of legally impounded items”.
Viewing Dates Set
Prospective buyers can inspect the vessels at Shannon Harbour (R42 RH96) on:
- Friday, 17 April: 12:00–16:30
- Saturday, 18 April: 11:00–15:00
A special lot, The Romaris, will also be available. The 40ft wooden cruiser is located at Lakeside Marina in Co Westmeath. Viewings for this vessel are by appointment only on Friday, 17 April.
Compliance Requirements
All vessels returning to the water must comply with the Navigation Bye-laws. This includes registration, safety standards and permits.
Waterways Ireland warned that any unsold vessels may be scrapped. Disposal will follow the Waste Management Act 1996.
Proceeds To Support Enforcement
Funds raised from the auction will be reinvested in the enforcement of navigation regulations. Further details are available via Irish Machinery Auctions.
