Ireland's sailing, boating & maritime magazine

Make Irish charts available, says Seascapes

25th June 2009

Tom MacSweeney and his team on Seascapes this week (10.30pm, Friday June 26, RTE Radio 1) ask whatever happened to the plan for an Irish Hydrographic Office - announced in 2007 - so that Ireland could have its own charts and no longer depend on the British Admiralty

Also there's reports on new angling lakes developed in gravel and sand quarries; latest Inland Waterways news; and the Green Dragon heads for the end of it's Round the World voyage, along with the usual miscellany and some music, as well as the 'basics of sailing - simple'. Don't forget to tune in!

Seascapes, presented by RTE's Marine Correspondent Tom MacSweeney and produced by Marcus Connaughton, is broadcast at 10.30pm each Friday night and repeated at 5.02am on Monday mornings on RTE Radio 1. The programme is also available as a podcast and is broadcast twice a week on the digital station, RTE Choice, on Wednesday mornings at 7.30am and Saturday lunchtimes at 12.30pm.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
