Butler and Moore sew up Fireball title with race to spare

25th July 2009

With a single race still to be sailed, Noel Butler and Seamus Moore have sewn up the Fireball Nationals in Mayo. Adding 4, 2, 1 and 2 to their overnight score, they sit with eight points overall. Andy Pearce and Hugh Butler with 2, 3, 2, 1 are secure in second overall. Rumball/Cooney (6, 1, 3, 7 today) are 6pts further back on 21. Ian O'Gorman and Siobhan lead the Silver fleet in 16th overall. Conditions were more difficult today with shifting winds but the programme of four races was achieved under grey skies. RO Harry Gallagher and his team had another superb day setting excellent reaching courses.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
