Feva Munster title goes to hosts

3rd June 2008

Royal Cork brother-and-sister team Richard and Amy Harrington took the top spot at the first major RS Feva event to be held in Crosshaven.

Superb sailing conditions, and Dayglo sails meant high-action, high-vis racing was the menu for the bank holiday weekend.

The Mediterranean conditions spoilt those out on the race area and cracking duels made for an exciting series right down to the last race.

DAY 1

OOD Richard Leonard got things underway in a fresher-than-predicted breeze. which remained steady for most of the afternoon, enabling four races to be run back to back.

Race One saw chaos at the weather mark taking out a few of the leading boats but local sailors Richard and Amy Harrington got through to take line honours. They were closely followed by Mark Condy and Andrew Harry from Howth with Richard Roberts and Robbie English of RCYC taking a third.

Race Two again went to the Harringtons but they did not have it all their own way. Julie Tingle and Ally Morehead led at the weather mark but were overtaken by Isabella and Tom Morehead at the leeward mark.

The Harringtons broke through on the beat and held the lead with Tingle and Morehead getting a creditable second.

The breeze stiffened for race 3three which saw some exciting reaching and downwind legs on the trapezoid course.

Isabella and Tom Morehead took line honours from the Harrington pairing, with Ryan O’Leary and Billy Griffin from HYC taking third. The final race of the day saw the Harringtons called back at the start, allowing Roberts and English rattle the Morehead cousins all the way until they got clear on the final beat with ~Condy and Harry taking third.

DAY 2

Once the sea breeze set in at midday Richard Leonard got the final races of the series underway.

The RCYC Harrington brother and sister combination revelled in the lighter conditions on the second day of the series with an excellent display of covering tactics firmly holding the Morehead cousins to second place and taking line honours in both races.

However neither pair had it all their own way with Julie Tingle and Alexandra Morehead proving to be a formidable combination in their first Feva event together, always taking the opportunity to force an error by the top two.

Their consistent scoring put them in a well-deserved third place. Amy Kate Trevor and Emma Geary overtook Mark Condy and Andrew Harris on the last day to take fourth.

Jane and Vikki Cudmore improved their scores throughout the series with two well deserved 4th places on the final day which moved them from 10th to 6th overnight.
