Prof is to be sailing's TV face

12th June 2008

As the Star debacle prepares to draw to a close, one of Ireland's three campaigners is getting on with business, signing up as RTE's face of sailing.

Corkman Maurice 'Prof' O'Connell has confirmed that he will be RTE's panellist for the Olympic games, covering the marine side of things.

Prof, who campaigned in the Star with Dubliner Ben Cooke and works as North Sails' rep in Ireland, will join the likes of Bill O'Herlihy, Eamonn Dunphy and Johnny Giles on the desk during RTE's television coverage of the Beijing games.

As one of the most gregarious and knowledgeable sailors in the country, the Royal Cork yachtsman will bring colour and nous to the panel discussions.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
