Johnny Treanor's J122 'Valentina', the Volvo Cork Week Coastal Class Champion, also won the overall Trophy for the week's best performance.

The final day had superb conditions to wrap up the five day regatta. Up to 15 knots of breeze piped in from the southwest, and sunshine broke through the early morning cloud cover.

The winner of the Kinsale Kettle, dating back to 1895, for the best overall performance went to Treanor’s National Yacht Club J/112), which won the coastal class, a class incidentally that was only added to the 2024 regatta slate in the week before it began.

Five straight bullets for Treanor secured a perfect regatta at Volvo Cork Week. Paul & Deirdre Tingle racing X4 Alpaca (RCYC) were second by a single point to another X4 from Scotland; Murray Findlay’s Xaviera (CCC).

A formula calculates the overall winner, and Valentina won by a mere 0.009 against winners from other divisions with equally impressive clean sheets.

“Fantastic, it was so close!” commented Johnny Treanor. “We are so delighted, we have only been sailing the boat for a couple of years but fortunately we have kept the same crew and this week we have come into gear, everything was clicking! I have the best crew in the world, it was not the skipper that won The Kettle, it’s the crew!”

As Afloat readers know, Valentina came to Crosshaven very much on form, having taken both the Royal St. George and Royal Irish regattas on Dublin Bay in the preceding weeks.

The Volvo Cork Week Grand Prizegiving and Closing Ceremony was held at the Royal Cork Yacht Club and billed as one of the greatest parties on the international yachting calendar. Royal Cork Admiral Annamarie Fegan, Cork Week Chairman Ross Deasy and Johnson and Perrott Volvo Dealer Principal Peter Russell presented prizes.
