O'Leary/Goodbody eye Miami podium

13th March 2009

Olympic Star campaigners Peter O'Leary and Tim Goodbody are just three points off the top three going into the last day of the Bacardi Cup.

The new pairing, currently lying fourth, have racked up three fourth place finishes en route to the final day.

The event has been sailed in light to medium airs off Miami.

O'Leary and Goodbody are the only Irish Star crew in the 69-boat fleet, which features multiple world champions and, back in seventh place, sailing all-round superstar Paul Cayard, just five points adrift of the Irish pairing. The Irish pair have used the event to formally unveil their campaign on the international stage, with Goodbody having sailed the Finn in the Beijing games, while O'Leary teamed up with Stephen Milne in the Star. After a post-games rest period, the pair decided in October to pool their talents in the Star for the 2012 games in Weymouth.

The Miami event is currently led by Peter Bromby and Maguns Liljedahl of Bermuda, with former Laser Olympian Mark Mendelblatt and crew Bruno Prada in second.

Results for the championship are here. Racing concludes today.
