O’Regan retains Optimist slot

16th April 2009

Colm O’Regan claims the title of Optimist Pathway Champion for the second consecutive year at the conclusion of racing in Schull, Co Cork at the pathway championships.

After discarding his worst result, O’Regan (Kinsale Yacht Club) was just one point ahead of Brendan Lynden (Royal Cork Yacht Club & Baltimore Sailing Club) but that was enough to retain his title. O’Regan counted two firsts, two seconds, a third and a fourth place during the competition.

At the prize-giving, Rory Fitzpatrick, ISA Youth & Development Manager commented:

“The ISA is delighted that you are all here – you are the up and coming sailors and you provided some excellent racing. It was short, sharp and intense and all were well behaved.”

21 sailors raced in the Optimist class in Schull Harbour, many of whom are now travelling to Crosshaven where they will attend the first leg of their trials for upcoming international Optimist events.

All the other fleets racing will continue until Friday and the overnight leaders are:

Chris Penney (Laser Radial)

Eoin Kelleher (Laser 4.7)

Rob Lehane & Iarlath Kennedy (420)

Finn Lynch (Topper)

Richard Roberts (Feva)
