Outbreaks of rain and drizzle, with mist and risk of fog patches, Rain and drizzle becoming widespread and persistent tonight but a clearance to fair weather will reach western sea areas reaching around dawn. The visibility for all sea areas: Moderate to poor in rain, drizzle, mist or fog, good otherwise. The outlook for a further 24 hours until 0600 Sunday 24 May 2009: Winds becoming light to moderate southwest to westerly during Saturday but later increasing fresh to strong south to southwest on western and northern coasts. Remaining rain and drizzle clearing eastwards during Saturday morning with mainly fair weather following.
It looks like moderate winds will prevail across the country for a host of sailing events this weekend. Met Eireann are forecasting South to southwest or southerly force 4 to 5 but south to southeast force 3 to 4 this morning in northwestern sea areas from Erris Head to Malin Head. Winds becoming southerly force 4 to 5 throughout the area this evening and veering westerly force 4 to 5 overnight.
