RTÉ News reported recently on the shocking sight of a stag with a lifebuoy caught in its antlers near Glendalough, Co Wicklow.
Images captured by startled onlookers near the Poulanass Waterfall show the stag with the lifebuoy and line tangled in its left antler.
Wicklow Mountains National Park workers confirmed to RTÉ the sighting was the latest of many in recent weeks.
They only way to remove the lifebuoy, the said, would be to tranquilise the stag - or hope that the stag will soon shed its antlers.
