Afloat contributor and photojournalist Michael Chester picked up a top prize at the weekend's Press Photographers Ireland (PPI) awards in Dublin.
Dun Laoghaire Harbour-based Chester picked up third place in the "News" category for his submission titled 'WHAT’S THE FUSS?', an image that captured the decisive moment as candidate Gerry Hutch (aka The Monk) waited for the general election result in the RDS Count Centre. Although he was defeated, the gangland figure came close to winning a Dáil seat in Dublin.
Chester also received an honourable mention from the judges for his Politics entry, “Bertie is back?”, a depiction of former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.
