Asgard Landing, Lambay Wreck Mystery To Feature On BBC TV's 'Coast'

#OnTV - The north Dublin fishing village of Howth will feature in the latest episode of BBC's Coast this coming Thursday 30 July.

Presenters Nick Crane and Tessa Dunlop cross the Irish Sea to explore Dublin Bay's deep symbiotic connection with the sea and its storied maritime history, including the landing of arms by the Asgard at Howth in 1914.

A bit further north, Cassie Newland and Miranda Krestovnikoff investigate the mystery of 'the first Titanic', the RMS Tayleur.

The White Star Line's most advanced clipper of the era ran aground sank off Lambay Island on its maiden voyage in January 1854 - claiming the lives of more than half its 650 passengers and crew.

Coast will be broadcast on BBC Two this Thursday 30 July at 8pm with replays on iPlayer for those in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
