Afloat.ie regrets to record the death of Jack Wolfe of Malahide and Howth at the age of 101. Despite some disability from polio in his 20s, he never let it interrupt his zest for life and enjoyment of being on boats, and he was a much-admired member of the Irish Cruising Club for more than 60 years.
A full appreciation will appear in due course; meanwhile, our heartfelt sympathies are with his family and very many friends at home and abroad.
William M Nixon has been writing about sailing in Ireland for many years in print and online, and his work has appeared internationally in magazines and books. His own experience ranges from club sailing to international offshore events, and he has cruised extensively under sail, often in his own boats which have ranged in size from an 11ft dinghy to a 35ft cruiser-racer. He has also been involved in the administration of several sailing organisations.
