Visiting Fireballs leave a stamp

22nd April 2010
Visiting Fireballs leave a stamp
The Fireball fleet's visit to Barbados for the 2010 Worlds, which includes several Irish boats, will be marked with the printing of a series of commemorative postal stamps by the Caribbean island. Over 76 Fireballls, 152 sailors and their families and friends are expected on the island for the event in May.

The Barbados Postal Service will unveil the stamp at a ceremony on April 23. The island is keen to promote itself as a regatta destination, currently overshadowed by the likes of Antigua Week and the St Maarten Heineken regatta.

This is seen as a huge accolade for the sport of sailing by the International Fireball Association, who have urged sailors traveling to Barbados, to be sure to send some postcards back home with the Fireball stamps on them.

The 2011 event will take place in Irish waters, hosted by Sligo Yacht Club.
