Safehaven Marine of Youghal Co. Cork has launched an Interceptor 48 class pilot boat for the Biscayne Bay Pilots for their pilotage operations at the Port of Miami in Florida, USA.

The Miami, built by the Munster-based boatbuilder, is powered by Scania  DI 13 500 hp engines, providing an economical operational speed of 25 kts.

Up to 7 pilots and crew can be transported using Grammer shock-mitigation seats in an air-conditioned cabin featuring a special arrangement with the 30,000 BTU air handlers mounted high up in a new roof moulding, allowing the most efficient cooling for Florida’s hot climate.

Fitted with Ocean 3’s fendering system that incorporates a larger fender at the shoulder impact area and a cutaway recess at the pilot boarding area that prevents the ship’s pilot ladder from becoming trapped.

Miami’s central helm position offers panoramic vision all round and above, providing the operator with the maximum comfort and control of the vessel, especially during the often challenging conditions a pilot vessel operates in.

Another special feature incorporated at the pilot's request is a forward watertight door on the port side adjacent to the helm, facilitating quick access from the cabin to the boarding point.

Miami also incorporates Safehaven’s transom-mounted man-overboard (MOB) recovery platform for safety.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
