Ireland Under-23 Crews Contest A Finals at World Rowing
#Rowing: David O'Malley and Shane Mulvaney finished fourth in their A Final of the under-23 lightweight pair at the World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam. Greece looked like they might dominate the race completely, but Switzerland took over and relegated them to the silver medal. Turkey took bronze - with Ireland finishing well, despite having placed well back in the early stages.
The Ireland under-23 quadruple finished fifth in their A Final. Britain won well, taking on and beating Germany and Italy, who took the silver and bronze. As the field tightened up at the finish, Canada were fourth and Ireland won a battle with Sweden to take fifth.

O'Donovan and Lightweight Pair Race Into World Rowing Finals
#Rowing: Paul O'Donovan won his semi-final after another exciting tussle and the Ireland lightweight pair also qualified for their A Final at the World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam today.
Lightweight sculler O'Donovan put in a remarkable middle third of the race to move from sixth to second in very hot conditions . He then pushed for the lead, but Rajko Hrvat of Slovenia was a dogged opponent. The two raced to the line - O'Donovan won by just over half a second.
Mark O'Donovan and Shane O'Driscoll reached their A Final by taking second. They raced France for most of the 2,000 metres and were still in touch at the end.

Sixth For Ireland Quad after False Start at World Rowing
#Rowing: Ireland finished sixth in the B Final of the under-23 quadruple at the World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam today. The Irish made a false start and held sixth down the course, though they never lost touch with the rest of the crews in the fierce heat. The race for top spot, and seventh in the world, was an enthralling one: Russia and France jousted, with the Russians finishing very well to win.

Ireland Junior Women Set For World Rowing Repechage
#Rowing: Ireland’s Emily Hegarty and Aoife Casey finished fourth in their heat of the junior women’s double at the World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam today. Just one crew from the heat qualified directly for the A/B semi-finals, with the rest dropping into repechages. France and the United States contended for the crucial first place early on, but France could not live with the pace set by the Americans, who won. Canada took third behind France and Casey and Hegarty the next spot.

Good Start by Ireland Junior Double at World Rowing Championships
#Rowing: The Ireland junior double of Ronan Byrne and Daire Lynch took second place in their heat and qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Championships in Rotterdam today. New Zealand took over from early leaders South Africa in the middle of the race and were the clear winners. Four crews would qualify, but Ireland and Belarus raced the final stages to see who could place second, and Byrne and Lynch won this - by seven hundredths of a second. South Africa took fourth.

Fine Finish Sees Ireland Into Second World Rowing A Final
#Rowing: Ireland’s under-23 lightweight quadruple joined the under-23 lightweight pair at the A Final stage of the Under-23 World Championships in Rotterdam. The crew of Fintan McCarthy, Shane O’Connell, Stephen O’Connor and stroke Colm Hennessy finished second to Britain in a fine semi-final. Ireland and Sweden held the qualifying places behind Britain for a good part of the course, but New Zealand mounted an attack in the final third. Ireland upped their rate and held out for second, with Sweden also moving into the A Final.
The under-23 heavyweight quadruple finished fifth in their semi-final. The race was won by Australia, with New Zealand and Britain booking their A Final places by taking second and third. Ireland fought with Ukraine to avoid last and held out at the end to win this battle.

#Rowing: Ireland’s David O’Malley and Shane Mulvaney became the country’s first A Finalists at the World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam today. The under-23 lightweight pair won their semi-final with almost three seconds to spare. The two UCD men took over from early leaders Turkey by half way and then left the rest behind. Turkey finished second and the United States ousted Canada to take the third A Final spot.

#Rowing: Shane O’Driscoll and Mark O’Donovan qualified for the A/B Semi-Finals of the World Rowing Championships today. Two boats qualified from the heat of the lightweight pair, and the Ireland crew chased the world champions, Britain, down the course. Russia eventually finished third, but by then the Ireland crew had nailed the crucial second place.

#Rowing: Paul O’Donovan won his heat with a dominant performance at the World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam today. The Ireland lightweight single sculler made light of the difficult condtions and left the rest of the field behind - Japan’s Yuki Ikeda, in second, was over five seconds behind the UCD clubman. O’Donovan will now have a good lane draw in the quarter-final.
