Arranmore RNLI off Donegal launched on Monday evening (24 June) to a call for assistance from a boat with engine failure at Owey Island, four nautical miles from the lifeboat station.
The casualty boat, which had suffered engine failure with four people onboard, had anchored safely and the those onboard were in no immediate danger.
On arrival at the scene, the lifeboat crew assessed the situation and stood by while the Irish Coast Guard’s Delta boat from Bunbeg established a tow and brought the vessel to the safety of Bunbeg Harbour.
Speaking following the launch, Arranmore RNLI coxswain Tom Davis, regional resilience mechanic said: “Sea conditions at the time were calm and the crew of the boat did the right thing calling for assistance.
“As a 24/7 emergency service we are always ready to answer the call for assistance. With the good weather and more people visiting the coast we ask people to heed the RNLI's safety messages. If you get into difficulty or see someone in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.”
The crew aboard the lifeboat on this call-out were coxswain Tom Davis, senior station technician Philip McCauley and crew members Sharon O’Donnell, Seán Gallagher, Bernard John O’Donnell and Joe Doherty.
