Three people were brought safely ashore after their 11-metre boat suffered engine failure 11 miles south-east of Wicklow Harbour late on Sunday night.
Wicklow RNLI launched its all-weather lifeboat RNLB Bridie O'Shea at 11.05pm following a request from the Irish Coast Guard after the vessel reported an overheating engine.
Under the command of Coxswain Nicky Keogh, the volunteer crew located the disabled boat around 30 minutes after launching.
Conditions at the scene were west to north-west force 3 to 4 winds with light to moderate seas and good visibility.
With the vessel unable to continue under its own power, close to shipping lanes and with no other boats available to assist, the coxswain decided the safest option was to tow it back to Wicklow Harbour.
The lifeboat secured the casualty vessel alongside the east pier at 2.10am, bringing all three people safely ashore.
Speaking after the call-out, Wicklow RNLI Launch Authority Mick Nolan praised the volunteer crew's response.
"This was a quick response by our volunteer crew with their training and equipment providing a successful outcome for all," he said.
