Sligo Bay RNLI volunteers carried out a medical evacuation from Coney Island on Friday afternoon (4 September) after being tasked by the Irish Coast Guard.
The station’s inshore lifeboat was requested to launch at 2.45pm and was underway from Rosses Point ten minutes later, heading the short distance to Coney Island in choppy conditions.
On reaching the island, lifeboat crew members went to the casualty’s location and carried out a casualty care assessment.
Two additional crew members were subsequently brought ashore by the lifeboat to assist with carrying the casualty by stretcher to the island pier.
The casualty was transferred aboard the lifeboat and taken back to the RNLI station at Rosses Point.
An ambulance crew was waiting on arrival, and the casualty was transferred into their care before being brought to Sligo University Hospital for further treatment.
