Irish sailor Simon Johnson from County Wicklow will compete on Black Star Racing, while Cian Guilfoyle returns aboard the French entry Aleph for this month's next round of the 44Cup.
Also flying the flag are Donaghdee’s Oisin McClelland, also on Aleph, and Grattan Roberts from Royal Cork on Team Ceeref Vaider.
The 2025 RC44 season concludes next week at Marina Jandía on the southern tip of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. Racing runs from 20 to 23 November, with practice on 19 November.
This marks the circuit’s first visit to Marina Jandía, a new development by Calero Marinas. It’s the first major marina built on Fuerteventura and offers 310 berths for vessels from 6 to 50 metres.
Though the marina’s surroundings are still under construction, it’s already hosting an international competition. The area is known for reliable trade winds and has long been a hotspot for watersports.
The new venue sits beside the Jandía Nature Reserve and is sheltered from strong winds, offering flexibility in race course setup. Race organisers may adjust the course to suit the day’s conditions.
Daniel Calero, who both heads the Calero family’s real estate division and skippers the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team, says the team is discovering the venue alongside other competitors.
Ten teams are expected to race in the season finale. Among the new additions is J/80 World Champion Alberto Padron, who is joining Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team as a trimmer.
The 44Cup class is a high-performance, owner-driver one-design fleet, known for its fast-paced, close-quarters racing. The final event will decide both the Marina Jandía winner and the overall 2025 44Cup champion.
