The 44Cup resumes next week in Marstrand, Sweden, with GeMera Racing arriving as the leader of one of sailing's closest owner-driver championships.

The third event of the 2026 season takes place on the rocky west coast island of Marstrand, a long-standing favourite on the 44Cup calendar. Racing is supported by Artemis Technologies and Marstrands Segelsällska.

GeMera Racing heads to Sweden at the top of the standings following the opening regattas in Lanzarote and Sardinia. The team will race with the series' coveted golden wheels, the 44Cup equivalent of cycling's yellow jersey.

"We're super happy to be leading the circuit at the moment," said GeMera Racing tactician Francesco Bruni. "We have made some huge improvements over the last year, and we feel very competitive. The competition is great, and the teams' level is very high. It is always so close that every point makes a difference."

The championship remains finely balanced. Aleph Racing sits just one point behind GeMera Racing, while Team Nika, Peninsula Racing and Team Aqua remain firmly in contention.

Defending Marstrand champion Team Nika also arrives in strong form after winning the previous event in Puntaldia. Tactician Nic Asher expects another demanding week on Sweden's west coast. "Marstrand is different to the Mediterranean," he said. "You are up against the elements most of the time. You always get some wind, some waves and sometimes very light conditions. It's tricky."

Artemis Racing owner Torbjörn Törnqvist said Marstrand remained one of the highlights of the season. "For me, Marstrand is a special place," he said. "It is nice to host everyone and make sure people have a good time, and the sailing is good."

The 44Cup fleet will begin with a practice day on 24 June before racing starts on 25 June. Up to three races are scheduled daily through to the final day on 28 June. Away from the racecourse, competitors will also take part in the traditional Marstrand social programme, including the popular gathering at the island's historic Society House.

About RC44

The RC44 is a light displacement, high performance one-design racing yacht competing in the 44Cup, a five-stop international racing tour. Co-designed by five-time America’s Cup winner Russell Coutts with naval architect Andrej Justin, the RC44 boats are strictly identical in terms of construction, shape of hull, appendages and weight/weight distribution, as well as a 50-50 split between amateurs and professionals in each eight-person crew. With everything, from the keel to the tip of the mast, made entirely from carbon, and with a powerful sail plan, the RC44 is rapid downwind, commanding upwind and performs exceptionally in both light winds and heavier breezes. The RC44’s innovative and technical design present an exciting new hybrid sailing challenge, with the crews expected to hike like a sports boat and grind as you would on a keelboat.
