24-hour Lake Race Starts Tomorrow

17th June 2010
24-hour Lake Race Starts Tomorrow

Lough Derg YC hosts its first ever 24-hour pursuit race starting tomorrow evening at 5pm, with dinghies and cruisers racing around a loop on the lake for a full 24 hours, stopping only to rotate crew members. The event is timed to coincide with the summer solstice, so sailors will only have to contend with around four hours of full darkness. Nav lights are included for dinghies as part of the entry fee, as is free camping, music and food on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Briefing takes place on Friday at 4pm and the race gets underway an hour later.

All the details are on www.dromineer24.com

We look forward to seeing how this race pans out, a great initiative from a great club.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
