The recent dismasting of a brand new AC75 has prompted concern among the America’s Cup community, according to Marine Industry News.

Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s BoatOne was launched in April, as previously reported on Afloat.ie, and was in the middle of a training session off Barcelona last Thursday (13 June) when shortly after a bear away in 20-knot winds, the mast broke into pieces.

It marks the first ever dismasting of an AC75, a one-design that is constructed under strict controls — and Matt Sheahan from PlanetSail says the incident will have sent shockwaves throughout the entire America’s Cup community.
