American Racing Challenger Team USA has appointed double Olympic gold medallist Giles Scott as Sailing Director ahead of the 38th America’s Cup. The 39-year-old Brit will report directly to CEO Ken Read as the team builds momentum for the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup challenge.
Scott brings extensive elite racing experience, including two Olympic gold medals and four Finn Gold Cup titles. His role will focus on shaping the team’s sailing programme and performance strategy as preparations intensify. The appointment follows confirmation earlier this month that the team will compete as an official challenger, representing the New York Yacht Club-backed Sail Newport.
Scott said, “I’m delighted to be joining American Racing Challenger at such an important moment for the team.” He added, “This project brings together a compelling vision, strong leadership, and a real desire to compete at the very top.”
Team CEO Ken Read said Scott’s experience would be critical to the campaign. “Giles is one of the most accomplished sailors of his generation,” Read said. “His experience, mindset, and attention to detail will be invaluable.”
The campaign is backed by entrepreneurs Karel Komárek and Chris Welch, with Read leading the overall challenge. The team is targeting a strong return for American sailing at one of the sport’s most competitive editions.
