With entries confirmed for next week's Calves Week in Schull, ORC Ireland is encouraging more competitors to take advantage of the opportunity to race under both the IRC and ORC handicap systems.
A strong ORC fleet is already expected, with almost 30 boats entered across four classes, but ORC Ireland says it is not too late for additional competitors to join the rankings.
ORC Ireland's John Kelly said boats already entered for the regatta can obtain an ORC certificate ahead of the event, allowing them to feature in both the IRC and ORC results.
"Many boats already have the measurements required, making the process straightforward," Kelly said. "A short-term ORC certificate is available for competitors who would like to compare their performance under both rating systems."
Kelly believes the growing ORC fleet will add another dimension to this year's racing, particularly as the same boats will be scored under both handicaps.
"It gives crews an excellent opportunity to compare how the two systems perform across a full week of racing in a variety of conditions," he said.
Boats wishing to obtain an ORC certificate before the start of Calves Week are encouraged to contact ORC Ireland as soon as possible. Details here
